Nova Scotia Board Requirements

PDH's Required:
240 PDHs/3 years (minimum of 60 PDHs/year)
PDH Reporting:
Annual by December 31: Members will, unless specifically exempted by Council, make an annual declaration of compliance with the continuing professional development program.
License Renewal:
Based on Annual Renewal: You are required to renew your engineering license annually by December 31.
PDH Categories:
You cannot claim more than the maximum PDHs allowed annually in each of the six categories: 
  • Professional Practice: 50 PDHs/year (1 PDH = 20 Hours of Professional Work)
  • Formal Education: 40 PDHs/year (1 PDH = 1 Hour of Learning)
  • Informal Education: 30 PDHs/year (1 PDH = 2 Hours of Learning)
  • Participation: 20 PDHs/year (1 PDH = 1 Hour of Learning, maximum of 10 PDHs/year for Service Activities)
  • Presentations: 20 PDHs/year (5 PDHs = 1 Unique Presentation)
  • Contributions to Knowledge: 30 PDHs/year (maximum of 10 PDHs/year for reviewing or editing articles for publication)
  • Professional Development Plan: 5 PDHs/year
You must include activities in at least three of the six categories. 
Categories Offered by CED:
CEDengineering.ca is qualified to offer Formal Education. 
Course Applicability:
All PDHs should be technical in nature under the Formal Education.
PDH Carryover:
The Board currently does not provide any information regarding the number of PDHs than can be carried over into the next renewal period.
