Nova Scotia Board Requirements
Professional Engineers
The continuing education requirements of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (Engineers Nova Scotia) are provided below:
PDH's Required:
Minimum of 30 PDHs/year
PDH Reporting:
Annual: You are required to report CPD activities during the annual licence renewal process.
License Renewal:
Annual Renewal: You are required to renew your engineering license annually.
PDH Categories:
The program allows CPD to be completed in four areas of learning as follows:
- Ethical Practice Learning (Mandatory - a minimum of 2 PDHs per year specific to Nova Scotia)
- Regulatory Learning (Mandatory - a minimum of 1 PDH per year specific to Nova Scotia)
- Technical Learning
- Communication and Leadership Learning
Categories Offered by CED:
CEDengineering.ca is qualified to offer Ethical Learning, Regulatory Learning, Technical Learning and Communication and Leadership Learning.
Course Applicability:
Each Registrant must identify the best mix of learning to fit their specific role and responsibilities in order to maintain competency and meet their obligations as professional engineers.
PDH Carryover:
PDH deferrals stipulated by Engineers Nova Scotia are as follows:
- PDH credits accumulated in the Technical and Communication and Leadership categories in excess of those claimed in that area may be carried forward for a maximum of one year from. the date of original completion.
- Carryover is not permitted in Ethical or Regulatory Learning as Registrants must refresh their ethical and regulatory knowledge annually.
- Registrants granted exemptions from professional development reporting will retain any available carryover accumulated prior to the start of their exemption period.

Professional Land Surveyors
The continuing education requirements of the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors (ANSLS) are provided below:
PDH's Required:
A minimum of 100 points over a rolling 3-year period, with a minimum of 20 points per year
PDH Reporting:
Annual by December 31: You are required to submit your CPD Report by December 31 of every calendar year.
License Renewal:
Annual by December 31: You are required to renew your license by December 31 of every calendar year.
PDH Categories:
The credit hours must be earned in Professional Development Categories 1, 2, & 3 over a rolling 3-year Continuing Professional Development Cycle as follows:
Category 1: Education and Training
- Activities:
- Professional development seminars and courses
- For Seminars, between 5 and 15 points for a one-half to a full day seminar
- Survey related: 1 hour = 1 point
- Non survey related: 4 hours = 1 point
- A maximum of 20 points per year
Category 2: Association Participation
- Activities:
- Attendance at Association general and/or regional meetings
- Service on Council and/or Association committees
- A maximum of 35 points per year
Category 3: Other Activities
- Activities that do not appear as specific items listed in Categories 1 and 2
- A maximum of 10 points per year
Categories Offered by CED:
CEDengineering.ca is an online continuing education provider qualified to offer Category 3 activities.
Course Applicability:
You are responsible for completing CPD activities that meet the criteria of the ANSLS.
PDH Carryover:
No PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
