Transmission and Distribution Power Cables
Course Highlights

This online engineering CPD live webinar provides a comprehensive overview of transmission and distribution power cables.

This presentation highlights the critical role that T&D power cables play for both overhead and underground applications in electrical systems. Understanding what these cables are, why they are essential, and how they are constructed is vital for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the grid.

T&D cables are engineered to handle voltages typically ranging from 1 kV to 230 kV, and their design – from the conductor to the overall jacket - directly impacts performance in both overhead and buried environments. We will take some time to review bare aluminum overhead conductors including ASC, ACSR, and specialty conductors. Then, we will dive in to the various design options for high voltage and medium voltage underground cables – including the conductors, insulation, shielding, and jacketing. We will also touch on submarine cable for offshore wind farms along with high temperature superconducting cables. By mastering these fundamentals, utility engineers, specifiers, and field technicians can make informed decisions when selecting and installing cables for grid infrastructure.

This 2 CPD online live webinar is intended for engineers, designers, and technical personnel who are interested in learning about power cables for use in transmission and distribution systems.
