This online engineering PDH live webinar starts by examining the ethical basis for environmental protection in a way that often professionals are never taught or paid to learn. The impacts of human actions, the possibility of mitigation or avoidance of those impacts, and the advantages and disadvantages of the various means of scientific and ethical bases of mitigations and avoidances are then presented. The conclusion circles back to recommend the best ethical and scientific bases for environmental protection.
The four modes of environmental protection (precaution, prevention, polluter pays, as well as participation and portioning) utilized by governments and social systems are covered. Then each of these modes is considered in light of the ethical and scientific bases from which it operates and the different administrative and technical means by which each mode protects humanity and the environment.
At the end of the presentation, the discussion turns to the common concerns of humankind and the preference for the selection and design of the optimum mode of environmental protection to safeguard the most vulnerable.
Since it is not possible to provide specific instructions and/or specific procedures that are universally applicable to every situation that may be encountered, this course emphasizes the use of sound judgment and the development of a good understanding of environmental protection options and effects, rather than mandating inflexible approaches.
This 1 PDH online live webinar is applicable to civil and environmental engineers, as well as any specialty of engineering involved with the mitigation or avoidance of environmental impacts.
