This online engineering PDH live webinar will present, through slides and discussions, the basic principles of control systems, including systems such as loops control, elements, types of controls and control circuit diagrams. Additionally, it will present diagrams of basic instruments to illustrate how they function.
Instrumentation is the use of technology and devices to detect and control physical and chemical characteristics of materials; this includes motion, light, color, acidity, etc. A control system takes the information from instruments of a process and manipulates it using logic (algorithms), then applies the results to a process or system to change its characteristics.
This 2 PDH online live webinar is currently intended for civil, electrical, mechanical and structural engineers, as well as plant managers in maintenance, engineering and management, who are interested in learning more about the basics of controls and the principles behind the most used instruments in industry.
This P.Eng continuing education live webinar is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Identifying system elements and components
- Understanding the basics of controls such as loop and open controls and its elements
- Learning about the methods and principles of Instrumentations
- Acquiring a basic knowledge of the basis of motor control elements

Once you have decided on a webinar or multiple webinars, click on “Add to Cart”. You can also download these instructions from your account at anytime.

From the webinar access and completion instructions that you receive, click on the link to join the webinar. We recommend using a headset connected to your computer for enhanced audio quality. Furthermore, you will be provided with a link to download the webinar handout. Alternatively, you can download it directly from your account.
We recommend that you connect to the webinar approximately 10 to 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
Following attending the webinar, you need to return to the CEDengineering.ca website and log in to your account to complete and submit the feedback form. Once submitted, we will email you your Certificate of Completion. You can also download it instantly, or at anytime, from your account where all your CPD records are kept for your convenience at all times.
