Superposition Principle in Electrical Circuits

This engineering online CPD live webinar is on a fundamental law of linear electrical circuits. This law, known as “Superposition Principle” is used to split complex electrical circuits that contain multiple sources of energy into individual simpler circuits, each with only one source of energy turned on at a time. Once the quantity of interest (voltage across a component, or current through it) is found in each individual circuit, they are added up to find the quantity in the original circuit.
The webinar starts with a brief review of Ohm’s Law, series and parallel combination of resistors, as well as voltage and current divider equations. Each of these concepts are used in the application of the superposition principle. Following the review, superposition principle is explained in detail, before going over its application to several example circuits each including 2 or 3 independent sources of energy. Examples are worked out step-by-step and they clearly demonstrate the power of the superposition principle in analyzing circuits.
This 1 PDH live webinar is intended for anyone who is interested in learning about fundamental laws of electrical network theory.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with specific knowledge and skills needed to:
- Analyze DC circuits with multiple sources of energy using the superposition principle
- Use the parallel and series equivalent resistance in application of the superposition principle
- Use the voltage and current divider equation to speed up analysis of circuits
- Find current and voltage of any branch of circuits using the combination of the above concepts
