Steady-State Operation of Transmission Lines – Part 2 of 2

This engineering online CPD live webinar will establish, through slides and discussions, the operational aspects of lossless transmission lines. This webinar is Part 1 of a 2-part series.
The ABCD parameters for these types of lines is developed as the special case of long transmission lines studied in webinar 1. Voltage and current relations between sending end and receiving end of the lines is discussed. Surge impedance for these lines is defined and calculated and importance of surge impedance loading and its effect on voltage profile is covered. The wavelength and speed of propagation of power on lossless transmission lines are covered. Equation for power transfer capacity of these lines in terms of rated voltage of the lines, displacement angle, surge impedance and line length is given. Condition for maximum power transfer and its equation is given and discussed. Voltage regulation of lossless lines under different loading conditions are calculated.
This 2 CPD online live webinar is intended for electrical engineers, as well as design personnel who are interested in learning the fundamentals of transmission line operations.
This PE continuing education live webinar is designed to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Be able to mathematically model long lossless and lossy aerial transmission lines
- Calculate the ABCD parameters of lossless lines, and using those, establish the relationship between sending and receiving end voltages and currents.
- Given the parameters of the load on these lines, to calculate the power generating end’s voltage, current and power factor.
- Calculate the surge impedance and surge impedance loading of lossless lines as well as voltage regulation and voltage profile for different load profiles.
- Analyze the design factors, such as displacement angle, line length, rated voltage, line impedance and admittance and the effect of these factors on loading capacity of both lossless and lossy lines.
- Calculate line power transfer efficiency of lossy lines and maximum power transfer capacity of lossless and lossy lines.
- Find the wavelength and speed of propagation of power on lossless lines.
