Mission Based Reliability: Turning Short-Term Survival into Long-Term Reliability

COURSE NO: B04-006
PDH CREDIT: 4
Mission Based Reliability: Turning Short-Term Survival into Long-Term Reliability
Course Highlights

This engineering on-line PDH course will describe through discussion and examples an effective technique for quickly improving the apparent reliability of any asset using simple but frequent inspections or “health-checks” and timely remediation before failures can occur.

The equation used to determine the relationship between the frequency of simplified “health checks” and the resulting reliability is explained.  Then an effective technique for ensuring short-term survival of assets by managing both the health-checks and the resulting recommendations is described.  Finally, the methods needed to convert short-term survival into long-term reliability is explained.

This 4 PDH course is intended for mechanical, electrical or any engineering discipline assigned the role of reliability engineer for a company, a plant or a fleet of mobile assets.  This technique will be particularly useful when dealing with the commissioning and start-up of new assets or any other occasion when confronted with a significant number of nuisance component failures resulting in inadequate reliability.
Learning Objectives

This P.Eng. continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Determining the frequency of simplified health-checks needed to deliver a desired level of reliability
  • Managing heightened surveillance process and tasks required to ensure near-term reliability
  • Linking repeated periods of short-term survival together to produce a significantly greater period of long-term reliability
  • Taking the steps needed to improve the robustness of bad-actor components so intense surveillance can be somewhat relaxed

Course Quiz
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions to earn 4 PDH credits. The quiz will be based on the entire document.
The minimum passing score is 70%. There is no time limit on the quiz, and you can take it multiple times until you pass at no additional cost.
Certificate of Completion

Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.) For your convenience, we will also email it to you. Please note that you can log in to your account at any time to access and print your Certificate of Completion.
