Wire & Cable 101

This online engineering CPD live webinar provides a comprehensive overview of wire and cable fundamentals covering all key aspects and components.
This presentation highlights the essential role wire and cable plays in powering and connecting our modern world. Understanding what cables are, why they are needed, and how they are made helps ensure safe and efficient electrical systems. Power cables are designed to carry electrical signals or power, and their construction - typically involving conductors, insulation, and protective sheathing - directly impacts performance and safety. By learning the fundamentals, specifiers and engineers can make informed decisions in selecting and using the right cables for various applications.
We will begin by reviewing the basics of electricity, before diving into each layer of a standard power cable. The discussion will involve conductor sizing and material, insulation material, shielding and armouring materials and methods, jacketing materials, and as a bonus, we will discuss the basic flame ratings relevant to the North American industry.
This 2 CPD online live webinar is intended for engineers, designers, and technical personnel who are interested in learning about wire and cable.
This continuing education live webinar is designed to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Learning about wire & cable basics from the inner most layer to the outer most
